The municipality of Goeree-Overflakkee wants to be energy neutral by 2020 through the deployment of wind energy. They want to ‘disconnect from natural gas’ in a proactive way and be an exemplary location for sustainable energy solutions. Stad aan ’t Haringvliet was designated as pilot site. Research made clear that going "all electric" was difficult and inefficient and that coordination with the natural moments for households would give the best results when it comes to becoming sustainable. Stedin also indicated that the natural gas grid is suitable for hydrogen and that the estimated costs of this solution are lower than an all electric solution with reinforcement of the electricity grid. So why not change to hydrogen immediately and start converting the housing stock in phases?
HYGRO is a partner of Deltawind and is directly involved with the conversion of one of the local wind turbines to start producing hydrogen. Certainty of production and sales within the same project are a point of departure of the business case.
