The community Goeree-Overflakkee wants to be energy neutral, thanks to wind energy, in 2020. Moreover, they want to be an exemplary location for sustainable energy solutions and proactively ‘‘make no longer use of natural gas”. Stad aan ’t Haringvliet is the pilot site. After thorough research it became clear that all electric would be tricky and inefficient and the connection to the natural moments for households would give the best results for more sustainability. On top of that Stedin (the Dutch grid operator) has concluded that the natural gas network is suitable for hydrogen and the estimated costs are even lower than the NOM. So why not switch directly to hydrogen and have a build and a home approach in phases?
HYGRO has been involved via Deltawind and will convert one of the local wind turbines to a hydrogen turbine. In this project we will arrange the supply and demand simultaneously as well. The picture in the header visualises the first outlines of the idea that is being explored.
